Why are people always so condescending to me?

It's like I have something painted on my forehead: "Criticize me, because I'm a moron and I need your guidance". I'm sick of it. Everyone does it. My girlfriend, my co workers, and lots of other people. Not my boss though, which makes things even more puzzling. It's people I don't expect to boss me around, who DO.
