Rent-Controlled Apartments?

We currently reside in a rent controlled apartment and are trying to move to another rent controlled apartment in another town, but on the new application we make more money than on our current application info for our current lease. My BF will be making more than he has been, he has been working for his company since October but we never reported the income change bc he worked way less than part time about 3-5 hours a week but with summer sales picking up he will be working about 15-20 so that was the info i used on the new app. I'm worried that when the new place calls our current landlord for the previous/current renter reference that our rental istance information will be questioned because his income hasn't been reported and i really don't want to be penalized for not reporting it. When She calls for the reference do you think they'll discuss our financial information?
